Hi Everyone,
Rather than writing a long post today I wanted to get back in the saddle and just say hello after a long time away.
In this last season I celebrated a birthday, lost a love, moved into a new living situation, redefined what the word “family” means, lost my understanding of where my life was headed, said goodbye to relationships of many different kinds, chose a new job and learned I want different things than I thought I did. It turned into a season of self-focus.
I also came to realize I need my own caregiving in the same way I have given it to my patients and clients.
In my time away I made beautiful connections, heard incredible stories, participated in end-of-life events and took on new skill sets I plan to share in detail. I plan to include people’s insights about their aging parents and grandparents, their losses, and unique burial choices for their loved ones, and interviews with current caregivers who are making powerful cultural choices. I look forward to sharing those written interviews and I hope you will enjoy them when I am ready to publish.
That is all for now.
I look forward to our continued conversations on the complexities of aging and dying in America.
It is good to be back.
In love and gratitude for you being here,
Empathic Emma
